Arc de Triomphe
Aside from romance and some breathtaking monuments, the French are doing a great thing for the youth in its country. According to the AFP, an international news agency, Paris, France is offering free newspapers to youths between the ages of 18 to 24 in an effort to boost readership and subscriptions. The government will pay $7.4 million dollars over three years to make this happen. Also, “newspaper editors involved in the initiative will produce content adapted to the demands of young readers.” Some assumptions I made about the reason behind targeting the youth market: growing market and greater buying power. So will this empower the youths to read more and continue to read for years to come when the freebie is over?
