Tax season is here. Time to get in on the fun! Get a free tax ebook with no strings attached from Smart Money. Also just in case you don’t already know, if you earn low to moderate income you may be eligible to a free electronic filing and even free tax preparation assistance. If your adjusted gross income is $57,000 or less you can obtain free e-filing and maybe free tax preparation, but generally to be part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program you need to make $49,000 or less. Find your local VITA to see if you’re eligible. It’s nice to have these programs, especially during these trying times.

Diabetes, considered a silent killer, like smoking, is a major health problem in America. Oprah and Walgreens have teamed up to offer you a free diabetes test today, February 5, 2010, between 11am to 7pm your time. If you don’t have a Walgreens near you or cannot make it out tomorrow for the event, then call 1-800-WALGREENS and make an appointment before or by February 18, 2010. Get yourself checked out and if you come out victorious (Diabetes-free), definitely try to eat better and exercise more anyway because you may be vulnerable in the future.

Free Call to Haiti - Google Voice and Skype

For the last week the world has paid close attention to the catastrophes occurring in Haiti. It’s amazing and commendable to see the amount of countries that have stepped up to the plate, from governments to civilians, to help these resilient people. Google is also doing its share by providing Google Voice members with free calls to Haiti for the next 2 weeks.

Also worth a mention is Skype’s offer. The company is offering $2 of Skype credit to Skype users in Haiti. This will cover at least an hour’s worth of calls to most countries.

Although generous, I’m not sure how useful these freebies really are due to the currently pulverized infrastructure in Haiti. They’re still worth a shot though. My heart goes out to the people of Haiti along with their family and friends.

As I write this post, according to the State Dept more than $20 million has been raised from Haiti from sheer text donations alone. Great job USA! Here is a 9 ways you can help Haiti.

If you need to be reminded of when to take your medication, then here is a Free online rx reminder service to help. Just sign up for this free online service and input the pertinent information such as the medications you’re taking, dosage frequency, prescription refill date, and etc. You can choose how to be reminded whether it’s via email, text messaging, or you can print out a schedule chart and stick it on your fridge and be reminded that way. Taking your medication regularly and correctly is absolutely crucial to getting better. This is one great way of keeping yourself in check and following doctor’s orders so you won’t get scolded at your next visit.

Free Flu Shots

Flu shots are coming early this year. CVS and Walgreens recently announced that they will be providing Free flu shots to the unemployed and uninsured.

CVS Pharmacy will be offering 100,000 Free flu shots through vouchers that the company will be distributing at OneStop Career Centers, MinuteClinics, and at any scheduled CVS/pharmacy flu clinic. According to the website , it will be announcing dates and locations of the voucher distribution soon.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Walgreens is running a similar program, but the difference here is that it has supplied a dollar sign cap off – $1 million worth of flu shots. Its vouchers will be offered at one of several Wellness Tour locations scattered throughout the U.S and Puerto Rico. Check out its scheduled Wellness Tour here for dates and locations.

Universities like MIT, University of California Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, and Yale, to name a few, are offering Free online courses on practically any subject on the most well known video portal out there – Youtube. Learn for free! This is just as great if not better than the Open Courseware Consortium, which provides educational materials from institutions such as some of the above noted. Times are tough and school may not be the best option for some of us thus take advantage of these free videos and course materials to keep the brain fresh and churning.
